Orthotic and Prosthetic Appliance Workshop

The primary purpose of this workshop is to provide orthotic and prosthetic services for all persons in Guyana, both adults and children with disabilities, so as to aid in their rehabilitation.  Initially, this workshop was a small unit merely catering to the needs of the children at the Centre.  In 1994, a new building funded by the Management Committee through external agencies was constructed, equipped and additional technicians trained.  At present, there is staff consisting o f two orthotic and prosthetic technicians, two assistants and three apprentices.  The Workshop, the only one of its kind in Guyana, caters to persons with disabilities throughout the country.  In order to facilitate those clients living outside the city, there are outreach clinics whereby services are taken to rural areas on a regular basis.
