PRRC Participates in the Commissioning of Facilities for Pwds at the University of Guyana

On June 27, 2011 the University of Guyana invited representatives of the PRRC (Rehabilitation Officer, Hyacinth Massay and employee Stacy Johnson) to be a part of the commissioning of their new facilities for persons with disabilities.  Below are further details from University sources:

In September 2008, the University responded to a call for proposals from the USAID Disability Fund. The UG proposal sought to upgrade the University Library so that some sections of its holdings and services are accessible to Persons with Disabilities. This project supported the University’s plan for the creation of an enabling environment for Persons with Disabilities and, in particular, the area of information access.

UG then consulted with various disability related organizations to provide an appropriate collection of assistive technology to adequately utilise the G$5M allocation.

Another proposal was submitted in December 2008 for the Ambassador’s Self Help Fund to provide access to sanitary facilities for Persons with Disabilities. The University benefited from a grant in the sum of G$1,600,000 earmarked for the construction of washrooms across the Turkeyen Campus.
